Introducing FIG's new mascot: The Guardian Beaver

Internet Regulation R187B-5.3:
All blogs and websites created after 1915 shall henceforth be required to choose a spirit animal to represent said website at the invisible congress of mascots.

Most sites choose a mascot and then hide it away never to be seen again. I mean, have you ever seen the eBay eBaboon or the Wiki-wombat?

Well, here at Fully Integrated Geeks, our choice was made easy for us. All the way back in episode 4 (so like two weeks ago) we first mentioned The Guardian Beaver and since then he has become a recurring joke in our show notes.

So without further ado, The Guardian Beaver (inexplicably dressed as a Jedi). Watch for the Guardian Beaver to start popping up now and then.

The Island of Misfit Shows - CW

The CW is an interesting entity. It has considerably fewer programs than even FOX, and so it has far fewer shows in trouble in any given year. They've already got two spots open, so everything else looks like it's safe for another season.

The Dead:

These shows have already been canceled. They'll never hurt anyone else ever again.

Out To Pasture:

These shows aren't headed to the glue factory. They've had a nice life, and it's time for them to relax in syndicated bliss forever.

The Island of Misfit Shows - NBC

NBC is the worst network by a longshot right now, and so even their "good" shows aren't doing all that well. It will be interesting to see if they just cut ties with everything under the line and start fresh. If it's going to happen, this will be the year, as they have all new execs and a new parent company. If one of your shows is in this post, you should probably start crying now.

The Dead:

These shows have already been canceled. They'll never hurt anyone else ever again.

The Dying:

These shows have almost no chance of making it to next year, but they're still breathing...for now.

Life-Support:

These shows are On The Bubble, and that means all kinds of things come into effect when determining their fate. How expensive are they? How close are they to having enough episodes for syndication? Do the stars/creators play nice with the network? You don't want one of your favorite shows in this category, b/c it means any little thing could lead to cancellation.

The Island of Misfit Shows - FOX

People always bash on FOX for killing so many genre shows, but the truth is that the only way they can kill a lot of genre shows is by making a lot of genre shows. They've gotten away from that recently, so we'll see if they add anything to Fringe to get back to the FOX of the 90s. Looks like they'll definitely have some room in their schedule.

The Dead:

These shows have already been canceled. They'll never hurt anyone else ever again.

RIP Dwayne McDuffie

Comic Book Resources is reporting that Dwayne McDuffie has passed away unexpectedly . McDuffie, the co-founder of Milestone Comics and writer of several animated television shows, worked for both Marvel and DC in his career.

An ardent advocate of positive portrayals of people of color in comic books, his most famous creation is the teen-aged African-American hero, Static. The character starred in the television series Static Shock for four seasons in the early 2000s. His work for DC Comics included writing the Justice League on both the comic book page and the television screen.

McDuffie's talent and voice within the comic book industry will be greatly missed.

The news of his passing comes on the same day that his most recent screen writing project, All Star Superman, was released.

You presume we have no Luthors? Our creed is (to speculate about the casting of) LUTHOR!

Some sources are reporting that Zach Snyder is considering Kevin Costner for a part in the upcoming Superman reboot. The part that seems most fitting for him is Jonathon Kent, Superman's adoptive father. However, Costner's hairline reminded us here at FIG that the new Super-movie has yet to cast its Lex Luthor. Much of the speculation points to the movie's villain being someone other than Superman's greatest foe, but we would still like to see the character make a cameo to lay the possible ground work for subsequent movies.

Without further ado, we present some of the actors we would be screen testing for the part if we were in charge. Disclaimer: We are well aware that most of these are unlikely and some of them are strange choices. We here at FIG prefer to think outside of the box. Uncle Lex would be proud of us.

Not my first choice, but McShane is a great actor and his voice would be chilling calling out Superman.
Another great actor, but he's very picky about his movies.
Perfect for old school fat Lex, but unlikely because fat Luthor is rarely used these days.
I know, I know...he's already Voldemort. I don't care.
M. Night Shyamalan says: The man who was rumored to play Superman recast as Superman's greatest nemesis! What a twist!
Has all the range to be psychotic, charming and brilliant at the same time. Could also serve as an "F you!" to Marvel for not including him in the Avengers movie. This is probably my favorite of our picks.
I have nothing to say, just seemed like a clever choice.
A choice for a younger Luthor.
I really, really like this pick. Foster has the capability to be pretty scary. Another choice for a younger Luthor.

Game of Thrones - "An Introduction to Westeros"

Another great trailer for the series. No spoilers to speak of, and several new scenes and characters are visible. Enjoy.

MIT Physicists Work to Confirm What Comic Writers Have Known Since the 1950s

The Daily Galaxy has an interesting article about Cosmological theory. "Modern cosmology theory holds that our universe may be just one in a vast collection of universes known as the multiverse. MIT physicist Alan Guth has suggested that new universes (known as “pocket universes”) are constantly being created, but they cannot be seen from our universe."

Gluth, Robert Jaffe, Alejandro Jenkins and Itamar Kimchi from MIT have shown "that universes quite different from ours still have elements similar to carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, and could therefore evolve life forms quite similar to us."

Right. Very similar. Sometimes the Flash wears a helmet and sometimes the Flash wears a cowl. Sometimes Batman and Superman debuted before World War II and sometimes they didn't. I read about it in a comic once.

Anyways, check out the article over at The Daily Galaxy.

The Dubious Wonder Woman Pilot has a Promising Star

Several sources are reporting that Friday Night Lights actress Adrianne Palicki will be starring as the titular character in David E. Kelley's upcoming Wonder Woman pilot. Physically, she looks like she can carry the part. This seems to be a solid choice for a pilot that, let's be honest, does not look that promising. Only time will tell.

The Island of Misfit Shows - CBS

CBS is the top overall network right now, so their "bad" shows are doing better than a lot of the "good" shows on other networks. It's possible they'll only dump a few shows, but I'm going to assume that they'll want to be able to put at least a handful of new scripted shows on the air in the fall.

The Island of Misfit Shows - ABC

Time to debut a new type of post here on the blog. This one takes a look at the lowest-rated shows on TV so we'll know what we won't have to hear about next year, and how much room we'll have for new shows in the fall. I'm going to go one network at a time, and alphabetically was the easiest order I could think of.

Spidey reboot gets an official title

Sony just announced that the first film in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot will be called The Amazing Spider-Man. This follows a trend started by Christopher Nolan of using existing comic book titles for films. The Amazing Spider-Man. Superman: The Man of Steel. Batman: The Dark Knight. I hope this trend continues, because it's a little nod to the hardcore fans, but it's also better than Batman Forever or any other name some studio execs will be able to come up with over the course of a few months.

Sony also released the first official production still for the film as a companion to today's title announcement. Looks good to me, and a lot of people are really excited for the return of the mechanical web-shooters.
